What Is Reiki And How Does It Work?
How does Reiki Work?
The Reiki energy is administered by “laying on hands” direct to the body or just above the body allowing “life force energy” to flow between healer and client. As the energy flows, the practitioner will sense changes and imbalances in the client’s energy field and often use this to guide them during the session.
If a person’s “life force energy” is low or blocked in an area of the body, they are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if the energy is high and flowing freely, they are more capable of being happy and healthy.
The treatment is unique to each person, but it is usually an incredibly peaceful and relaxing experience. Reiki is an intelligent energy and will go to where it is needed. It will go to the root of the problem; for example, if someone is experiencing physical pain caused by emotional distress or trapped emotions, Reiki will work on clearing this blockage or imbalance.
As I said previously, Reiki works on the person as a whole and helps to re-balance the whole person, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. By bringing the person energetically back into balance, the energy can flow unimpeded so that the body is more efficient and effective and healing and repairing itself.
What is Reiki?
The translation of the word Reiki, which simply means “Universal Life Force Energy”. Reiki healing is the transferal of life force energy from practitioner to client for healing on four levels: mental, emotional, physical and spiritual.
Research and studies on Reiki healing
There is increasing research evidence documenting the positive effects of Reiki, including helping with pain relief (Study). Reiki seems to be a complex yet natural process which engages the body’s organs, muscles, and multiple systems, shifting it from a stress state to a relaxed state.
I agree with the researchers who suggest Reiki works on a sub-physical level in what science refers to as the ‘biofield.’
The biofield is a layered vibrational energy field, possibly electromagnetic, that surrounds and penetrates the physical body. You can feel the biofield when you hold the palms of your hands face to face a few centimetres apart; the resistance can feel like pressing soapy bubbles.
This biofield that we are now becoming aware of in the western world has been known for thousands of years by indigenous cultures around the world. They have used vibrations such as humming, chanting and drumming to elicit health and vitality.
Reiki can be considered a subtle healing vibration that helps increase coherent vibration in the biofield & physical body and reduces dissonance and dis-ease. As the biofield absorbs the energy, it changes the vibrational energy that induces the body and mind into a relaxed state so the Reiki energy can flow more freely to where it is needed.
